Janine Beamish – Human Resources Advisor

“I have been living in the Boddington region for the past 22 years and my association with the Boddington Gold Mine goes back to 1989. When the old mine closed a few years ago I was commuting to Perth to work a variety of roles, which was not ideal for my way of life. With Newmont re-opening the mine, the appeal was to come back to the region full-time and not have to travel to the city anymore.

Boddington is such a close-knit community. Everyone looks after each other, lends a helping hand and there is excellent schooling, so it’s perfect for families. My social calendar is always full. Being a local gives me the ability to go home every night. The family aspect is vitally important to me and everything I need is right here.”

Ross Polis – Environmental Officer

“I have been working with Newmont since the beginning of 2005 and have come through the two year graduate program. This allowed me to spend 12 months on another site in a FIFO environment and the past year residing in Boddington.

The attraction of working for Newmont is the opportunity to be involved in a start up project. This is brilliant for my career development! The work is challenging, full of variety and the gold mine has so much going for it.

The local community in Boddington is great. It’s close to Perth, you can get to places quickly, there are plenty of community clubs and events, and the climate is excellent all year round. The best thing about working in Boddington for me though is the people in my department, they are fantastic and the work culture is excellent.”

Kim Airay – Drill & Blast Supervisor

“I’ve been in the mining industry since 1987 and spent the last 17 doing FIFO. The main thing that attracted me to Newmont when I started in January [2007] was the roster. My partner is a local, so it’s fantastic to be back in the area with a long-term view to settle permanently. We currently live in Perth, so I stay at the accommodation village during my roster and make the short trip back home, which makes family life so much more settled.

The town culture is great – you get to live more of a life. You can go up north for a while and chase the dollars, but the ideal roster and life balance is all here.
I’ve worked on a lot of projects during my career, and what drew me here was being involved in an exciting start up project, and Boddington Gold Mine is one of the biggest around, so it’s here to stay.”
